Portland fashion designers celebrate 10-year anniversary of FashioNXT

Designers from all over the Pacific Northwest are showing Portland this weekend what is next in fashion for the 10-year anniversary of FashioNXT week.

The event kicked off Thursday night and included a showcase of fashion and lifestyle, accessories, and personal technology from Pacific Northwest designers’ perspective of what future fashion trends are to come.

A spokesperson from FashioNXT told me they held the show at the historic US National Bank building in hopes of revitalizing the downtown area while also promoting PNW fashion designers and creatives in the area.

Thursday’s show included work from Oxana Ake-Lukmanova, Tinarie Eans, Jezeus Feliciano, Tarik Kaddouri, Marina Wilson, and Kelli McDonough.

The columns framing the runway illuminated the room with purple strobe lights and all attendees made sure to come dressed to the nines.

Each designer displayed a handful of crafted pieces for the show, and even though each model had a distinctive style you could see the uniformity of each designer’s aesthetic.

Some designers had vibrant, fun, and metallic styles while others took advantage of elegantly highlighting natural and tope palettes.

Marina Wilson, who went to the Portland Fashion Institute, says having her work be a part of the opening night of FashioNXT was special to her. She said that even with all the designers’ different backgrounds the event encompasses community and motivation for creativity.

There’s still time to see this creativity live and in real time on Friday and Saturday.
