On Sunday, October 8, 2023, various Southern University students participated in seeing the fashion and comedy show In the Mini Dome. This started the numerous homecoming events that would eventually continue throughout the week. Unfortunately, this event left a lot of people, especially me, unsatisfied with the outcome of the homecoming experience we student’s desire. Naturally, the fashion and comedy show should have been separate events throughout the week. The reason is that last year, they did that, and people enjoyed the experience of both the fashion and comedy shows because they were fully fleshed out. However, whoever decided to add both shows together really made it underwhelming, causing both shows to feel last minute.
With the fashion show, while many did enjoy graphic design that they had in the background, it was challenging to appreciate the detail when they had the lights constantly flickering. Also, the fashion didn’t put much effort into their poses. In the beginning of the fashion show, it seemed that most of the models just walked in their positions and then walked off. It would have been greatly appreciated if the models gave 100% whilst in their poses. Lastly, it also seemed as if there were only ten people who were dressed up in different clothing for different clothes designers. The comedy show was worse for me to be honest. Unlike last year’s comedy show experience, there were three comedians and one host. Not to mention, the comedians themselves were not that funny, excluding the 85th South Show comedian.
In conclusion, it was just embarrassing that we had this event happen to begin with instead of two separate events throughout the week. Southern University can do better when it comes to treating homecoming with way more dignity than applied in the past.
