The dining hall of the Sarasota Yacht Club was filled on Oct. 23 with attendees during the annual fundraising luncheon event for Baby Basics of Sarasota County, Inc..
“It means the world to me,” said President Sandy Slaminko of the annual fundraiser, noting that close to 250 people attended.
The event featured a fashion show along with a raffle and silent auction, and, of course, the teddy bears representing the title and theme of this year’s luncheon, The “Bear” Necessities.
All funds raised during the event will benefit the all-volunteer organization, which provides diapers and wipes to low-income families who do not have governmental assistance; provides books through a partnership with the Library Foundation for Sarasota County; and also engages personally with the babies and families to offer kindness and enrichment.
“It’s for a great cause. I do it every year,” said Alice Strike.
“It was wonderful, absolutely wonderful,” said Marilyn Keyes. “I support this event every year. This organization does wonderful things.”
Slaminko said the recipients of the materials have appreciated what the charity offers as well.
“It’s a hand up, not a handout,” she said, stating that many beneficiaries of the programs go on to give back to the organization.
