Halloween is almost here, which means Thanksgiving is around the corner and Christmas will be here before we know it. Time to start getting out the jackets and boots! Whether you are headed out of town to visit your in-laws or booking a cozy cabin near Boston for a romantic weekend away, Diego Abba, the CEO of italist has the scoop on autumn fashion tips for New Englanders.
What are some investment pieces Bostonians should buy this fall?
Maxi coats were all over the runway for Fall-Winter ‘23—and we have a lot of them on italist right now, and all at a great price. This is in contrast to last year’s emphasis on bomber and varsity-style jackets. Maxi coats are generously cut, with grand proportions like floor-dusting length, roomy shoulders, and extra-long sleeves for that extra touch of coziness. For harsh winter weather, they’re the best way to cover up and look incredible at the same time. To invest in a maxi coat, it’s good to make sure you pick the right size and shape for your body. Since maxi coats tend to graze the floor, you’ll want to make sure it isn’t too long or too short and hits at least 6 inches above your shoes.
Fall-Winter ‘23 runways from Balenciaga to The Row also featured dramatic capes and voluminous cover-ups. Capes make great fall wardrobe staples because they’re an unexpected silhouette and they’re great temperature regulators. For transitional seasons, they work well for warmth and ventilation, and can be added to nearly any outfit for a dash of retro glamor. Max Mara also has a great, single-breasted cape version of its Teddy coat. On italist you’ll pay the Italian price, plus this style is on sale now, for a total savings of 55% vs. the U.S. retail price!
What are the best sweaters we should all have in our closets?
Burberry’s new collection is spearheaded by Daniel Lee, who was the former design lead at Bottega Veneta, and it’s pretty epic. We love his fresh take on some of the label’s motifs like argyle and check, in fresh colors like yellow, purple, and dark red. Right now we have quite a few of the new designs on sale.
Everyone needs stylish boots in New England, which brands are worth checking out?
If you like UGGs, consider the British brand of cozy flat boots called Mou. They have a slightly different design and come in a range of colors and lengths. For dressier looks, Paris Texas has become *the* go-to boots brand over the last several years.
What are a few layering pieces you would recommend for Bostonians this season?
Isabel Marant’s floral prints are iconic—we like examples like the Lensy shirt for layering underneath a cardigan or coat, paired with jeans. Something like Bottega Veneta’s short-sleeve rib-knit wool polo shirt is another good option, in a gentle light blue, that doubles as a warm layer underneath outerwear. Pair with flared trousers or jeans for an A-line silhouette.
Winter will be here before we know it, any new trends in jackets?
Menswear-style suiting is a trend this fall, so blazers will likely be popular across demographics this winter and we’re excited to see them styled every which way. Right now we have 2,700 new season blazers, and we especially love the ones that are already on sale like Jacquemus’ “Galliga” missing-shoulder version, this minimalist collarless example from MM6 Maison Margiela, and this deep bordeaux number from Lanvin—it’s part of the new Fall collection and is 44% off retail right now!
