Angelina Jolie is firmly team heels. The star is a devoted stiletto wearer who has brought her sky-high shoes everywhere from the streets to the airport. While her wardrobe is filled with luxurious clothes in subtle neutral hues, her shoes always make her quiet outfits pop (a pin-thin heel will help do that). But while spotted out in Paris today—where she’s filming a new biopic, Maria, based on the opera singer Maria Callas—Jolie was spotted in, gasp, a flat. But not just any ol’ flat. It’s one of the trendiest and most celebrity-approved flats of the season: The ballet flat.
Recently, ballet flats have appeared on the feet of stars such as Gigi Hadid and Katie Holmes, and now Jolie is clearly on board with the elegant look, too. She proved that it can feel current—and not at all like when it first became a fad back in the 1950s. Her classic black, rounded-toe style was paired with a black sheath dress, her favorite monogrammed Celine tote bag (she’s been carrying it around everywhere), and a big pair of movie star shades.
Now, typically Jolie would accentuate the ensemble with a sky-high heel—but there’s something about those ballet flats that makes it just that much more effortless. It’s chic without screaming: Look at me! Call it a shoe for stealthy style stars.
