Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales spent this morning encouraging the students of Nottingham Trent University to prioritize their mental wellbeing. Reminiscing on her own experience of studying at St Andrew’s University, the princess recommended the students step outside their horizons and try new things. “I would love to be a student again,” she said. “University for me was one of those great opportunities to try out hobbies.”
Hockey Soc and Tennis Soc aside, one of the most well-known moments of Kate Middleton’s tenure at St Andrew’s was when she starred in a student-led fashion show dressed in a sheer midi-dress. A look which no doubt piqued Prince William’s interest, it later sold at auction for £78,000. She otherwise wore cami tops with low-slung bootcut jeans, just like every other twenty-something was also doing in and around 2011. The monarch’s fashion choices tend to skew a little more authoritative in 2023, with office-ready trouser suits and court shoes.
But this morning, perhaps because she was interacting with students, the princess wore a relaxed, knitted two-piece from the affordable French label Sézane. Founded by Morgane Sézalory in 2013, the brand is all about “everyday clothes with little details”, and has become a cornerstone of the princess’s wardrobe. She styled the beige knitted co-ord with pearl-drop Simone Rocha earrings and suede Gianvito Rossi pumps, offering a princess’s take on the comfortable garb usually associated with undergraduates.
